Chipotle's Annual Boorito

It is no secret that I am the biggest fan of Chipotle Mexican Grill; my sister and I used to take dates there every Friday and would split their giant veggie fajita burrito. Every Halloween Chipotle runs a special promotion where if you dress up like a Chipotle food item, you receive a free burrito/burrito bowl/etc. This Halloween they changed it up a bit, if you come dressed up like a horrible processed food, you receive a burrito/burrito bowl/etc. for $2. The proceeds go towards Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution (click here to find out more), a very worthy cause. I decided to dress as a donut to get my scrumptious burrito tomorrow, and I posted a little tutorial on making your very own donut mask. 

You need several more items for this: a small circular object, brightly colored paper scraps, hole punch, box cutter, ribbon, packing tape, and glue. Sorry, I didn't think about these things until after I took the picture.

1. Trace the large circle on the cardboard. I found this giant cardboard box out in the dumpster, little did its former owners know it would be made into a donut.

2. Trace the small circle on the cardboard, this is the donut hole.

3. Cut out both circles with box cutter. Be careful, it's sharp!

4. Add your base coat, this is going to be a pretty iced white donut.

5. Paint on your frosting.

6. Punch out your sprinkles and glue them on the frosting. 

7. Flip over donut and tape on ribbons.

8. Finished product! I traced the frosting and sprinkles with the Sharpie, just to make it stand out more. I added "I'm a donut" so people wont think I'm a pink egg. 

I can't wait to go to Chipotle as a donut, I made one for D. too, he is such a good sport.

Bunting DIY

After the sneak peek wedding post the other day, I was determined to make my own cake bunting. I have a a little stash of vintage fabrics that I've picked up from garage sales and this was the perfect project for it, it took so little material and the result is quite satisfying.

1. Pick out your color palette. 

2. Cut into little squares.

3. Cut into flags.

4. String onto thread.

5. Tie onto bamboo skewers and enjoy your handiwork!

Birdie Boutonnieres

Yesterday I decided that I was going to finally make something that has been on my "to-do" list for six months, make these cute little boutonnieres for my wedding. I used some of the supplies that my sister got me for my birthday from the etsy seller Caramelos. All of the other supplies were things I had hanging around my craft box; wire, floral sprays, pieces of my sister's outdoor wreath that I found on the front porch (see, I did put those to use), feathers, ribbon, and buttons.


This one is my favorite.


This one is my least favorite and made me really mad, the bird looks way too big. Unfortunately I don't have any other birds to replace it with, I guess this means I need to take a trip to the craft store.


This is the groom's, made from an old peacock feather earring of mine.




He has such a cute green face, I want to give him a *kiss*.


Here's that giant bird again! Aaargh!

Pretty Ponies

I found a post on design*sponge featuring the artist Ann Wood. The post featured Ann's original design for a D.I.Y. tutorial on making a stampede of wild horses. I had much too much fun with this tutorial and I whipped up four pretty ponies to hang above my bed.



These scraps were the basis for all of my ponies, cardboard cereal boxes, origami paper, newspaper, an old maps.



Notice that the legs are put together with buttons? I have a very limited button supply which is why I wish I bought that bowl of buttons at the art trail this weekend, oh well.

The Problem With Korean Instructions...

What do you call someone who speaks three languages? Trilingual. What do you call someone who speaks two languages? Bilingual. What do you call somone who speaks one language? An American.

Well, that about sums it up.

My parents spent several years living in South Korea and I always looked forward to the fun packages my mom would send me laden with Korean goodies. However some of these goodies turned out to be a bit problematic.

These felt craft kits come complete with everything needed to make a box of chocolates, a birthday cake, and little rabbits, unfortunately the direction are all in Korean. Even though I was in Korea for 3 months, the only Korean words I can muster up are "how much", "hello", "goodbye" and "mom". I feel like these words wont get me very far with these kits. I am endeavoring to make the birthday cake and just interpret the instructions the best I can.

I noticed on the directions that there was a website listed, but it was in Korean. I used Google translator to convert the page, but it only translated about 1/3 of the website. Blast.

Upon further inspection of the pattern, I noticed that there are numbers printed on the pattern, it shouildn't be that hard, right?

Progress

Two years ago while staying with my grandparents, my grandma gave me several unfinished sets of pillowcases that my great grandma never embroidered. When I was a teenageer my grandma taught me how to embroider and I've been doing it ever since. I have made quite a bit of progress in the last several months than I ever did in the past two years that I had them.

Happy (Belated) Birthday to Me

The other day I was pleasantly surprised to find a belated birthday package waiting for me in the kitchen. This is what was inside.


My crafty second mom made me these two little owl pouches, oh she knows how I like owls. I plan on using the bigger one to keep my latest embroidery project floss and other embroidery tools inside.

Birthday Wishlist

Well, it's about that time of year again and I thought that to make things easier for my gift givers, I would make a little birthday wishlist for them. I am also currently stuck in the house while braving yet another snow storm. This craft pad is full of cute little embroidery transfers and is on sale at Amazon for only $5.18! Okay, so the cover is a little bit dorky but this book is full of tips for starting your own crafty business. The more obscure the craft supply the better, and these washi paper tapes fit the bill. Also any little millinery supply from the etsy shop Caramelos, like these cute cotton spun mushrooms, would be perfect. I'm imagining an entire outfit around these sunglasses where I look like an early 1960s beatnik or a Bob Dylan devotee. I saw a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers at Marshalls this winter for only $60 and I am kicking myself that I didn't buy them. I started seeing these heart tights around on the blogs I frequent and I must admit that at first I didn't care for them, but I really like them now and I enjoy adding to my tight collection. They are pretty easy to come across, like on Urban Outfitters (I've got to help some people out here :) And finally, this Trader Joe's Lavender Salt Scrub, I saw it the other day at Trader Joe's and it smells just like the summertime and is inexpensive, even better. Oh, and while we are on the topic of Trader Joe's, their Jojoba Oil would be a fun present too. Well, I hope I've helped everyone out with gift suggestions. *UPDATE* Since I am still in the snow, I have done some perusing for the perfect cropped black pants to go with my Ray Bans, and I found these slim cropped pants on Gap. I'd say they fit the bill!

Blasted Blizzard

I just survived my first blizzard, the Baltimore area received a record snowfall of 30 inches! Whoa, that is wayyyyyy too much snow. I spent my day off shoveling the snow only to turn around and see that the freshly shoveled walk was once again covered in snow. Oh, how irritating. I then decided to go inside and spend some time crafting Valentines but that didn't last long since I was experiencing throbbing pain in my neck and back from shoveling all of that snow. I had to retire to my bed to rest but I was sure to take pictures of my crafting supplies. As you can see I am a big fan of Martha Stewart crafts. My sister gave me this Martha Stewart flocking kit for Christmas, and I'm going to try it out on my little Valentines.

Christmas Crafts Continued

Shocking I know, another post! I have been so terrible about blogging this year but I am making up for it a bit with all of these crafty posts. Well, these little guys were another craft from this month's Martha Stewart Living and they've been a big hit with all of their recipients; my boyfriend's parents, my mom, my boyfriend and myself. They are so easy to make and the result is darling, I tied strings around them to make them into Christmas ornaments and put tinsel pipe cleaner trim on their hats for a vintage feel. My crafting supplies are a bit limited (since I am visiting family) but all this project took was scraps of felt and a couple of pipe cleaners. I found the toppers for their hats while looking around my mom's house, I snipped a couple of red and white "berries" off of her Christmas garland. It's not noticeable that they're missing and the elves appreciate their berry toppers.

Candy Cane Lane

This post has nothing to do with candy canes but it is all about candy of some sort. I saw this lovely little cupcake ornament tutorial and had to go out to the craft store and pick up all of the necessary items for these little confectionary snowballs. Mine did turn out a little bit overstuffed but I like them like that.

I just hung them up on the Christmas tree and they are quite cute.

I like to find inexpensive craft supplies, these foil liners were only $0.77!

I lined the walkway to the gingerbread house with cuppity cakes. My sister had the idea to put shredded wheat on the roof of the house to make it look thatched and the gumdrops on the front are surrounded with icing grout to look like a cobblestone front. I have been having a merry time around here in my crafting/baking paradise.
